Virginia Driving License
Certain requirements should be met before one can obtain a driving license in the state of Virginia. The minimum age limit is set at sixteen years and three months.
When you visit the Department of Motor Vehicles, you will be required to submit the completed application form for a Virginia driver’s license (DL1P). If you want to become an organ donor, you may mention it in your application at that time. You must also be able to successfully prove your identification, legal presence and Virginia residency. Proof of social security number is also required. These documents should be original as DMV does not accept photocopies. Furthermore, applicants will be required to pass a vision test, a knowledge test and a road skills test. Four dollars in license fees has to be paid every year.
If you have ever been found guilty of an offense, you will be required to obtain an approval for license from court. The procedure for obtaining a driving license will depend upon the age group to which you belong. For those less than eighteen years of age, it is mandatory that they complete a driver education program that is offered at local high schools and private driver training centers. The certificate of completion acts as a necessary component of your application. Your parents or guardians are also required to provide their identification card number or driver license number and to sign the certificate. They must attest that you have completed the required hours of driving practice.
Applicants less than nineteen years of age must obtain a completion certificate of the driver education program. They must also practice driving skills with their learner’s permit for at least nine months. After that they will be issued a permanent driving license. Those above nineteen years of age are required to submit a proof of completion of a driver education program and hold the learner’s permit for at least sixty days if they have never held a license before. Only then can they take the road skills test. If they already have an out-of-state license, the state allows it to be exchanged for Virginia driving license provided that they meet state requirements of residency, legal presence, identity, and driver education.
