Pre-requisites of Driver’s Training in Illinois

To drive in the state of Illinois you will have to apply for your first provisional driver license, to begin your drivers training in Illinois.

To do so you need to keep these things in mind:

  • You will need to keep your Illinois learner’s driver’s license in good standing for the first nine months at least.
  • You will need to complete the mandatory Illinois driver education program
  • You will have to maintain a passing score of at least 8 during the first two months of your school semesters
  • A written certification of completing the mandatory 50 driving hours from your parents or guardian, including  at least 10 hours of nighttime driving.

After successfully completing the aforesaid pre-requisites, you will apply at the Illinois Driver Service Center. You will then be required to pass a three-part driver training in Illinois exam, passing which will finally earn you an Illinois driver license.  If  you haven’t committed any traffic violation on your provisional license and are 17 or above, you will get your license.

However, there are a few rules and regulations you need to adhere to incase you want to keep on driving in the state of Illinois. Here is a brief introduction to a few of them:

According to the Illinois Learner’s Permit Restrictions:

  • if you have an Illinois learner’s permit, you must always have a fully licensed driver who is at least 21 in the front passenger seat.
  • During driving your Illinois provisional license must always be with you.
  • If you have passengers in the car with you, they must all be wearing seat belts.
  • You must observe all of the alcohol and intoxicating substance laws of the state.

  • You cannot drive between 10PM to 6 AM Sunday through Thursday and 11PM to 6AM Friday through Saturday without the presence of an adult in the car.

Violation of any of the above rules can result in suspension of your Illinois driver’s license.
