Texas Drivers License Change of Address

It is mandatory for Texans to have their address changed on their driver’s license within 30 days after moving to a new address. There are three ways of doing it:

• In-person
• By mail
• Online

The online option is often the most preferred since it is safe, fast and convenient. The applicant must meet the following requirements to change his/her address online:

• Hold a valid Class C or CM driver license
• Must be at least 18 years of age with driver license which is neither provisional nor learner
• Must be younger than 79 years of age
• Social Security Number (SSN) must already be in the system
• Must be a U.S. national

The applicant must keep the following four handy for a successful online transaction:

• The last four digits of his/her SSN
• A valid credit card like American Express, Discover, Visa or MasterCard
• Current driver license
• A printer to print the payment receipt and the temporary driver license

For people who prefer the mail-in option, they need to complete and sign the Application for Change of Address (available on the Texas Department of Public Safety website) and mail it in with required fee on the address given with the application form. The application is also available at all driver license offices. The application is simple and easy to fill-in, requiring the following basic information from the applicant:

• Driver License Number and its expiration date
• SSN
• Date of Birth
• Suffix
• Last, first and middle or maiden name
• Residence address including street address, city, county, state and zip code
• Date
• Signature

Those who would rather prefer to stop by at their local driver license office to notify it about the change of address, they need to complete and sign the Application for Change of Address and submit it to the relevant authority.
